Destroying the Poverty Mindset

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:2)

“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” (Ephesians 4:22-24)

It is apparent that we were all born and raised in a fallen world. This fallen world has produced a mindset in human kind, and that is one of lack. This mindset is so ingrained in our culture, that if I were to ask you why you go to work?, you would probably say to pay bills. You see, this mindset produces a limitation in which you only think of survival, and survival by working hard or by the sweat of your brow (Genesis 3:19).

This is why I encourage you, the only way to get out of the rat race is to first change your mind. Scripture says we have the mind of Christ, it’s time that we put on the new man. Moreover, the old mentality has to go in order to live in the promises of God.

Is Fear Dominating Your Life?

God had the Hebrews walk in the desert for 40 years. Why 40 years though? The journey was supposed to only take one week. God had to extend their journey because he was trying to get their minds to change. You see, the people of God were satisfied being slaves in Egypt. They actually did not want to leave. Once they left Egypt, right away they wanted to go back! What was their reasoning? At least they had food and water in Egypt.

Can you see it survival mode was in high gear, because they were afraid of the unknown. They had never been to the land that God had promised them. Due to their fear they never stepped out in faith on God’s word. How much different are we today?

How many of us have heard God tell us to start a business, or move or just trust in him for a new job? The fear of the unknown keeps us stagnant. We get comfortable where we are so we don’t seek more. That’s why there are so many poor Christians. Fear of failure is greater than the reward of success for many.

God makes it clear in his word that he wants his people to prosper, we see many examples such as Abraham, Joseph, David, and Solomon. Due to the fear, of not having enough to pay the bills and support the family, the step to start a business or move never gets done. How long would God have you walk in the desert? All those years later and their mindset still hadn’t changed.

Are you a Joshua or Caleb?

See a clear example when spies were sent to the land of Canaan. Ten spies came back with the report that the land had giants, that the land was not fit for them to take. All but two of the twelve had a different mindset. Those were the two that were able to enter the promised land. Let us dissect what they said.

“And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes: And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land. If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey. Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defense is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.” (Numbers 14:6-9)

God had promised an exceedingly good land to the children of Israel. Caleb and Joshua focused on God’s word, not their circumstances. In other words there focused on the solution. The land flowed with the provision that they needed. Having giants in the land were of no importance because they did not have a defense. Since the Lord would be with them in battle surely the battle was already won. The same is true for you. Heaven contains all of the promises that God made you. Will you take your land by force? Your enemy will continue to occupy any area of your life that you have not given to God. The first step is to change how you view your environment.

What’s this got to do with Money?

Money will not come to you without you first doing something. Many Christians think since God said I am the head and not the tail and he is for me, not against me, that money will just appear in their bank account. God gives ideas on how to capture money. Open your eyes to opportunities on how to build wealth. A change of mind has to happen from a victim to a victor for this to happen. As a victor, you will be proactive. You will no longer wait for change to happen to you, but rather you will initiate change.

Be the change you want to see happen. If you do not change nothing will change! The definition of insanity is extreme foolishness or irrationality. How rational is it to think to take on credit card debt, a car loan, not saving any money will get you to be a millionaire? But you want to be a millionaire, right? It’s foolish to think being irresponsible financially will get you to financial success. You NEED to change.
