“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to the flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.” (Galatians 6:7-8 )
But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.” (2 Corinthians 9:6)
The Universal Law
It seems pretty obvious that what you sow you will reap yet often we live as if it doesn’t apply to us. We think we can get away with this one thing just once… the problem is that more times than not it’s not once… or twice.
The law of sowing and reaping is the same in the physical as it is in the spiritual. God honors whatever you sow, he will bring the harvest.
Where are You Sown?
The bible has much to say about our surroundings. Do not surround yourself with fools you will become like him, don’t be unequally yoked and on it goes. You may think that you can continue to hang out with who you want and it not effect you, let me the one to pop your bubble and say… you’re wrong. Your friends that listen to worldly music, curse, drink for fun, will get you to the same place where they are. If you’re thinking that doesn’t describe my friends okay… are you surrounding yourself negative friends, those that feel stuck in life, they hate their job, and live paycheck to paycheck? Did I hit closer to home?
I once read that bamboo in its perfect environment can grow 1 foot a day. But, it has to be in a perfect environment, not the desert. Are your friends your desert?
You Reap More Than You Sow
I know that a harvest sounds fantastic. Who doesn’t want a huge return on their investment? But what have you been planting? Has it been to the flesh or the spirit? Has it been negativity and a poor mindset? Are you sure you want a return on that? When you plant a seed, the plant will always grow more fruits and produce more seeds. You will never get one seed back. There is a multiplication that occurs as the plant grows. The more it grows and the longer that it grows the more seeds it will bear.
Are You Happy Being a Tree or Do you Want a Forest?
I want to challenge the way you think. A forest is trapped in a seed. If the seed does not have the proper environment to grow it will never release its total potential. What thoughts are you feeding yourself? Do you like the fruit that its bearing?
It’s okay to admit that you’re not happy with that you’ve been seeing yourself manifest. Maybe its being lazy, or late, or irresponsible. There is still time for you to change. It all starts as a seed. Be purposeful in your thoughts and actions, start by implementing one thing today. Tell yourself that you are productive, successful, hard working and on time. It may seem like you’re telling yourself a lie but faith is the evidence of what is not seen. So maybe you can’t see those things but have faith they will come. Then apply action to the words, because faith without works is dead!
Sometimes we become discouraged because we try something once or maybe a few times and we don’t get the results we want. Consider the parable that Jesus gave about the seed and the sower. When the sower went out to sow some seeds fell in the thorns, some were eaten up and others withered right away. Did it mean that there was something wrong with the seed? Absolutely not! So maybe you haven’t seen the outcome you want because you simply have not done it often enough or it has had the time needed to grow or you have hit a rut and stopped growing.
Are You Limited?
You can sow as much as your like but if it’s in a contained space then the growth will be stunted. It goes back to the environment we were talking about earlier. Can your roots go down deep where you have been planting your seeds? Have you ever noticed after a natural disaster that trees are blown right over. The roots can not sustain the weight of the tree against the outside pressure. If you try to grow in any area without allowing the roots to go down deep then all you’re doing is setting yourself up.
My Own Limitations
My freshman year of college I gained close to 20 pounds my first semester. Crazy, right? Well, that following semester I wanted to lose all the weight I had just gained. I began going to the gym 5 times a week. After 3 weeks of seeing no results I got frustrated. How many of you can relate with me? So then I began to go less often and after 2 months I didn’t go at all. Now how could I possible expect results that way? The change was occurring but I couldn’t see it. It seems obvious but once again this is what most people go through.
Let me hit a sore spot now. Your prayer life. Is there something that you need God’s intervention in so bad that you prayed all the time about it. And after a while you didn’t see the results you wanted so you stopped praying. You are the one that stopped your growth. The roots weren’t able to fully form but you want the tree to be tall and heavy. The issue is that when the winds and waters hit you, you can now easily fall. You may desire to see the fruit but the last thing to form on a fruit tree is the actual fruit.
Don’t give up on yourself because you don’t have to go this alone. Actually God says that he will give you new life, he will makes all things new. Be intentional about it. So many times we want things in life but won’t put in effort to get it. We want to lose weight but continue to eat, we want to make more money but start a new job or expand the business, we want peace but won’t pray. God is faithful to bring you to the harvest that you desire and need if you will be faithful in sowing according to his good pleasure.
